Admission to Oak Plains Academy

The admission process at Oak Plains Academy begins when a referring agency or family member contacts us inquiring about our services.

A pre-evaluation is conducted through the presentation of prior clinical history, as well as phone interviews with referral sources, treating professionals and family members to determine appropriate placement in our programs.

Treatment is provided in the least restrictive environment that ensures safety for the patient, leads to a reduction of symptoms, and promotes improvement in functioning.

Services are offered on a non-discriminatory basis to all persons, regardless of race, sex, national origin or principal source of payment.

Admission Criteria:

  • Male and Female residents must be 7–14 years of age
  • Residents have been diagnosed with a Principal Axis I DSM-IV diagnosis.
  • IQ of 69 or above
  • Treatment at a lower level of care has been attempted or considered
  • Resident exhibits impaired judgment, impulse control and/or cognitive and perceptual abilities
  • Resident has significantly impaired interpersonal functioning
  • Resident exhibits sufficient emotional, social and behavioral functioning to participate in the therapeutic milieu and treatment
  • Resident is experiencing significant family problems that prevent him/her from adequately functioning within the family setting
  • Resident is medically stable and the medical needs of the child are within the scope of the program
